Copperfield's author event - Lucid Dreaming

In his book Dream Yoga, Andrew Holecek guided readers into Tibetan Buddhism's nocturnal path of lucid dreaming and other dimensions of sleeping consciousness. Now, with Dreams of Light, he offers an in-depth, step-by-step guide to its daytime practices. Copperfield's Books is hosting an online event with Holecek on Aug.19, 7-8 p.m. Known as "illusory form" practices, these teachings include insights, meditations, and actions to help realize the dreamlike nature of our lives. Through an immersive exploration of the tradition, beginners and seasoned practitioners alike will learn everything they need to deeply transform both their sleeping and waking hours. Free.


Food For Thought's Virtual Table

A live-streamed fundraiser for Food For Thought, called Our Virtual Table, will take place Aug. 23, 7:30 p.m. The event includes music, a client speaker and giving opportunities. There will be an online auction full of items for you to bid on - all from the comfort of your home. Help Food For Thought feed 850 people living with HIV, COVID-19 and other serious illnesses in Sonoma County. Food For Thought is a nonprofit organization that provides healing food and nutrition to more than 850 Sonoma County residents living with a range of serious illnesses, who are at risk of malnutrition.

Library Zoom guitar workshop

Want to learn or relearn guitar, strengthen your playing skills, learn new techniques, and learn how to better teach yourself? Join a free Zoom guitar workshop on Aug. 26, 4-5 p.m., sponsored by the Sonoma County Library. This class is for teens (grades 7-12) and adults.

Suffrage exhibit in Petaluma

The Petaluma Museum Association is commemorating the centennial anniversary of the ratification of the 19thAmendment by hosting a women's suffrage exhibit at the Petaluma Historical Library & Museum Aug. 26-Nov. 8. One of the most significant finds is a 1886 reference in Elizabeth Cady Stanton, Susan B. Anthony, Ida Husted Harper, and Matilda Joslyn Gage's History of Woman's Suffrage to five Petalumans who formed a suffrage organization in 1869. On Aug. 26, 6 p.m., the Petaluma Museum Association hosts a live-stream dedication of the exhibit in honor of former Congresswoman Lynn Woolsey and former Petaluma Mayor Helen Putnam. 


Museum of Sonoma County unGala

As an art and history museum, the Museum of Sonoma County brings the best of both worlds in celebrating their 35th anniversary. While the in-person Gala has been postponed, an online "unGala" will take place Aug. 29 at 7 p.m. An art auction will include over 30 works by renowned artists, many of whom have exhibited at the museum. Adopt-an-object features 24 unique objects from the museum's collection that highlight Sonoma County's rich history. Symbolically adopt an object to help preserve the community's stories for generations to come. The live auction runs from Aug. 22 at 9 a.m. to Aug. 30 at 7 p.m.

Jazz greats visit SRJC fall 2020 classes

Students enrolled in fall 2020 jazz classes at Santa Rosa Junior College (SRJC) will learn from six nationally-acclaimed visiting artists, via Zoom. Award-winning professionals, including Saxophonist/composer Dayna Stephens (Sept. 2) and pianist/composer Anne Sajdera (Oct. 7), will perform, present lectures and talk with students throughout the semester, enriching students' learning opportunities. All students enrolled in jazz classes at SRJC will have access to these events.

Online Gallery and Virtual Open Studios

Join Sebastopol Center for the Arts (SCA) for a re-visioning of their Open Studio programs for 2020. SCA has adapted its signature spring and fall programs, Art at the Source and Sonoma County Art Trails, creating an opportunity for the public to engage with Sonoma County fine artists despite the challenges presented by the pandemic. For the month of September, the public is invited to engage with participating artists virtually on a brand new online platform and in the artists' studios, if it is safe to do so. With 140 artist profiles and dynamic visual content, visitors will be able to interact with the artists in a variety of ways: via their individual websites and social media profiles, as well as by attending online events and virtual studio tours.
